So the saga continues. We went to the flooring place yesterday and picked out some potential tile and asked for a bid to replace our destroyed carpet with tile. It all started while I was away with Kira for a sledding weekend at a friends cabin. Birgit had a flood in the upstairs bathroom while we were gone that did surprisingly little damage to the upstairs bathroom! Unfortunately most of the water found its way down the air ducts and exited across the downstairs floor. The water went across the hall and into the laundry room and on down the drain. Unfortunately it also spread through the underlayment into the family room and downstairs bedroom.

Birgit tried to catch it with mops and fans but it just wasn't enough. I called the insurance company and they referred us to Disaster Kleenup. They came out and pulled the hall cieling down, pulled out the baseboards, drilled some holes and ran huge fans and de-humidifiers for about 5 days. Fortunately during most of that time we were gone to Caly for my buddy Dave's wedding. Unfortunately they missed a spot in the downstairs bedroom closet and had to come back out on Thursday and run a fan some more. Fortunately it dried out in a day. Unfortunately because the water had sat so long they now want to pull out the drywall in the closet. Ah well, that should happen next Friday.

Disaster Kleenup contracted some guys to come out and put in a new hall cieling and re-paint the hall. They did a pretty nice job. We have a friend from church coming out today to give us a second quote as he has his own tile business. As much as we would like to help him out with the business we aren't sure what to do about all of the furniture that will need to get moved before tile can be laid. Not to mention removing the old carpet and tack strips. If we stay with the insurance company's 'preferred providers' they will simply contract to have all of this done. We'll see what happens.
